Rockys Reward

Located approximately 330 km north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, the Rocky's Reward Nickel Mine operated as both an open pit and underground mine.

BGC Contracting was awarded the mining contract, to the value to $130 million, for the removal of 30.1 million bcm of ore and waste over a 48 month period.

BGC undertook drilling, blasting, load and haul of cutback ll to access ore below the existing open pit. The project required careful planning and operation procedures as the work was conducted above and around old underground open voids to access the nickel ore body. Due to economic pressures and falling nickel prices, the project was terminated mid-contract. Total volume moved up to this stage was 12.5 million BCM.
